 Leatherman Tools Are Great! December 24, 2008
After owning an original Leatherman PST I received as a gift in 1991 and it works as great today as it did then, I decided to order the Skeletool CX for its lightweight design with the tools I need. I am quite impressed with it and how comfortable it is in my hand as well as the tools it has. I have ordered the bit set to go with it. Leatherman's are great, well-made tools.

I have been looking for a low-profile.. but sturdy and functional knife for a long time. While I was shopping for a friend, I can across the Skeletool and decided to get one for both of us. I've been carrying mine around with me everywhere (I where suit pants to work), and this thing has come in handy so many times already. The pliers are a good size and have a substantial grip to them.. the drivers have definitely come in handy.. and the blade has kept it's edge despite me cutting through plastic and cardboard multiple times.

I have several other and older multi-tools, and when I bought this one, I was looking for lighter weight, simplicity and effective tools, and avoiding tools I don't use often.
The first thing I noticed on opening the box was the high quality manufacturing. Everything was tight and solid, and the finish was excellent. It has excellent pliers and a fine knife and the additional bit sets available mean that it will handle a great variety of screws as a screwdriver.
The second thing I noticed was how well the tool, in all of its configurations, fit my hand and grip. I have several multi-tools where some of the bells and whistles are just about useless because they are extremely unhandy to actually use.
If you are the kind of person who likes to "be prepared" without being weighed down by unnecessary complexity or tools, this could well be your multi-tool. The knife blade is so good, I've quit carrying a pocket knife. The clip makes it really easy to attach to a lanyard or a pocket where its accessible but not a burden.
I don't climb mountains or pursue extreme sports, but I do like to walk around out in the woods. I never know when I may see some fence wire that needs twisting or some branches that need trimming. My complements to Leatherman for the thoughtful, utilitarian design and the excellent execution. In my office, I run across that screw that needs tightening or that box that needs opening, and this really shines.

I am the proud owner of many multitools from Leatherman to Gerber. While they are great tools, they tend to be gaudy, heavy and contain things that you would rarely use especially if your looking for an everyday carry. There are also small multitools that can fit on your keychain but are just too small for some jobs, especially in the blade department. This is Leathermans answer to that gap. Out of all the multi-tools I have never seen one this efficient.
The blade is readily accessible while folded and is made 154cm steel which is one of the best blade metals there is. Its an extremely hard steel and highly corrosion resistance (note that the CX version is the only one with this steel) and is often the metal of choice by custom knife makers. When you open it you feel the click of the handles setting in place. The pliers are what you would expect with the wire cutters built in. While open, the screwdriver comes out the end of handle with two removable bits consisting of two different sizes of either the phillips or flathead. One bit stows into the handle while one remains in its usable position. When held the right way the pliers really contour well to your hand and makes it super easy to use and hold on to. The carabiner is genius, its awesomeness is self-evident and works great. It also acts as a bottle opener. You may find this funny but one of my favorite features is the pocket clip. I cannot explain how well it works and how light and easy this tool is to simply clip inside your pocket. Also the frame is coated with a scratch and corrosion resistant Tungsten DLC coating that looks very nice.
The missing star: My critiques about the tool starts with the sharpening on the blade. Its slightly uneven on mine with a varying depth on the grind on each side which will pose aggravation when resharpening. Also the Skeletool tends to be very stiff until completely opened. The boasts about opening it with one hand is pretty much unrealistic, but on the other hand you won't have to worry about it dangling open while hanging from the carabiner.
Those are my only critiques about it and none of those should deter you from this purchase. I just believe that 5 stars should be reserved for perfection. This tool was exactly what I have been looking for and is perfect for someone looking for a everyday carrying tool with a nice profile that could not be easier to carry and is executed beautifully.

I dislike poor quality products. The Walmart veiw of selling junk has got to stop. This is a solid quality tool that i can look forward to using and owning for years to come. Instead of something i buy cheap, use once, then throw away, having to buy it again someday.
