Product Description Focuses on the life of the young Clark Kent as he struggles to deal with his powers as well as life in Smallville, Kansas.
Amazon.com Who would have predicted that the departure of series creators Miles Millar and Alfred Gough would have given Smallville a surge of super-strength in its eighth season? Give a good part of the credit to saying out with the old--series veterans Michael Rosenbaum (Lex) and Kristin Kreuk (Lana), whose dreary romantic coupling dragged down previous seasons--and in with the new. The new include entirely fresh faces Cassidy Freeman as LutherCorp heir apparent Tess Mercer and Sam Witwer as paramedic Davis Bloome, and experienced players getting increased face time, such as Justin Hartley's Green Arrow joining the opening credits and Erica Durance receiving much more exposure than in season 7. In particular, with Lana having said goodbye, Lois (Durance) and Clark (Tom Welling) are given ample time to start building the relationship we know is inevitable, and their clumsy fumblings are the highlight of the season (their fake engagement is particularly funny). Chloe (Allison Mack) and Jimmy (Aaron Ashmore) grow closer, but the brooding danger of Davis reveals something much worse than a mere lovers' triangle. Clark starts to embrace his destiny by protecting Metropolis at invisible super-speed, earning him the groan-worthy nickname of "The Red-Blue Blur," and comic-book characters making their series debuts are the geek-favorite group the Legion of Super-Heroes (Cosmic Boy, Saturn Girl, Lightning Lad) and Dr. Emil Hamilton (Alessandro Juliani of Battlestar Galactica). The season sags when Durance is absent for stretches, and the season finale isn't nearly what it could have been, but it was still more than enough to rescue the series from what seemed to be the brink of cancellation and head strong into its ninth season. --David Horiuchi

smallville still sucks -- 0 stars!!! September 7, 2010 sweetmusicgrl (York, PA) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is the worst rendition of Superman in the history of Superman! Clark Kent is still a wimp and, won't accept his destiny. He won't accept himself for who he is to become. Why don't he just take the black kryptonite and just split his kryptonian side? Then we'd all be happy. The 8th season was too dark for my taste. The beast was scary. I hated it. Davis was such a nice person. I don't think he wanted to be doomsday. Lex dies. Um seriously? Lex wasn't supposed to die that way. Jimmy is dead? I don't think Jimmy was supposed to die either. I don't know a lot about Superman but, everytime I see a Superman movie, Jimmy is ALIVE. Unlike Smallville. I thought Lois & Clark would hook up. Not while Lana keeps coming back. Good thing Lana put on that nanite suit and sucked up all that kryptonite. Now they really CAN'T be together. I don't think Clark like's Lois. Either that or Tom Welling is doing a horrible job. I really liked Lois in her episode titled Stiletto. I do not like the new Chloe. I miss the old Chloe back in season one. Yes she's changed a lot. Jimmy dies right in Chloe's arms. I don't think Jimmy was supposed to die. That made me really sad and angry. How could the writers do that? I really hate Al/Miles. They really ruined Superman for me. I thought if I kept watching that Lois & Clark might hook up. Nope. Didn't happen in this season.
What I hate about Smallville is, that it is recycled material. In the fourth season they had an episode about witches. In the 8th season they had an episode about witches. In season seven Kara lost her memory. In one of the seasons Clark looses his memory. You see where I'm going with this? I think the writers were running out of material. So they decide to recycle and make it different. In most of the later seasons Clark is a wimp and won't accept his destiny. He thinks if he leaves Metropolis that, everyone won't be hurt by him. Stupid head! He's supposed to SAVE them not LEAVE them. I think Superman is brain washed.
If you left this show, and want to catch up again. My advice? DON'T! Nothing's changed. Smallville sucks. Stay away. Don't buy anything that Al/Miles have created. Chances are they ruined it.
Great season! Really dark! September 6, 2010 Kalima Young (Baltimore, MD United States) Season 8 was one of the best seasons of Smallville. It was so dark and the characters were in a hard place. The brief reunion and closing of the Clark/Lana relationship was fantastic but this was Chloe's season. A love triangle with the nerd, the beauty and the beast...so well done. The extra features (commentary, deleted scenes) were ok but it could've used a bit more commentary for the important episodes. All in all a great buy for a Smallville fan.
Smallville season 8 is the beginning of the best story arc ever!! August 10, 2010 A. H. Dolph (Indiana, USA) My wife and I are big fans of Smallville ((or I should say were originally)). We started watching the show from the first air date, and really enjoyed it till about season 4. The story arc at that time made it apparent the then creative minds in control had no interest in taking Clark/Kal-el down the path of superman. Well, when they lost creative control and the new vanguard stepped in with the later part of season 7, we started watching and due to personal schedules missed most of season 8, we missed some great material. Thus, we ordered Season 8 and were blown away with the direction that they went with the stories, the drawn out and tired story arc of farm boy Kent was finally matured ((I mean how long can a mid 20's character still act like a teenager?)) and the road to being 'Clark Kent aka Superman' was taken. Though he is still going by the blur in the end of this season and into season 9, you can so feel now like never before that the 'Man of Steele' is coming to a fruition. This season is the beginning of more entertaining writing and special effects. If you loved the first 3 seasons, you will more than likely love this season and the next one.
Samllville Season 8 August 5, 2010 Dave Got a great buy! Over half off of what Target and Best Buy were offering for the same thing on their websites.
superboyII July 14, 2010 pflash This is one of the best shows I've seen since 1949 ............ when we got our first TV(RCA) ........ An original/new depiction of the superman saga and it gets better every year ............ the only problem: it has to end after ONLY! ten seasons ......... congratulations to the actors, creators, producers, writers and everyone associated with the show.
